Methacrylamide is made in a continuous process by introducing sulphuric acid, acetone cyanohydrin, and an added sulphuric acid/ acetone cyanohydrin reaction product into a mixer at 80-130‹ C. The added reaction product must contain at least 25% by weight of methacrylamide and constitute at least 10% by weight of the total reactants. The ratio of sulphuric acid to acetone cyanohydrin in the over-all process must be in the range 1À0 to 1À5 moles of sulphuric acid per mole of acetone cyanohydrin. |
