Zusammenfassung:	1,183,185. Apparatus for heating or cooling a body. SPETSIALNOE KONSTRUKTORSKOE BYURO POLUPROVODNIKOVYKH PRIBOROV. 6 March, 1967, No. 10433/67. Heading A5R. [Also in Divisions G3 and H1] Apparatus for heating or cooling a body comprises a semiconductor thermoelectric heatexchanger 8 which utilises the Peltier effect to heat or cool a heat transfer fluid in chamber 7, the fluid being circulated therefrom to a heat-exchanger 4 where it transfers heat to or absorbs heat from blood which is circulated thereto from the body. The semiconductor thermoelectric heat-exchanger may comprise a battery of interconnected p- and n-type semiconductor thermoelectric couples, see Fig. 3 (not shown). Automatic control systems may be provided to control the temperature of the heat transfer fluid, and hence the body at a desired value.
