Zusammenfassung:1,173,131. Coating apparatus. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 28 Feb., 1967 [1 March, 1966], No. 8809/66. Heading B2L. [Also in Division A3] A shoe upper conforming machine similar to the machine described in Specification 1,010,149 has means to apply adhesive to the marginal portions of the bottom of the insole, the means comprising a member 5 with an outlet 13 on the insole engaging face, means for supplying the adhesive comprising a port 27 in communication with the outlet 13 by means of a passage 29 in which a slide member 39 slides from a first position in which the port 27 is closed and a second position in which adhesive is supplied from the port 27 to the outlet 13 by through passages 41, 43, 29, 35, 27. The adhesive is supplied under pressure by the pipe 25 from a tank in which in solid adhesive is placed and heated. The pipe, the ports and the block 33 are heated to prevent the adhesive settling. The slide member 39 is connected to the piston 47 of a pneumatic piston and cylinder assembly 49 clamped to the block 33. The slide member is kept in its second position for a short time, e.g. two or three seconds, and then withdrawn to its first position drawing the adhesive from the groove 13 as a result of its tight fit in the passage 29. The machine may be modified by having a perforated plate (67), Fig. 2 (not shown), across the width of the outlet groove 13. The movement of the slide 39 may be controlled automatically in dependence upon the movement of the grippers which pull the shoe upper over the insole edges.
