[Also in Divisions C3 and C7] Coating compositions comprise an acidic film-forming material containing at least two carboxyl groups per molecule, optionally at least partially neutralized with a base and a phenolic material containing at least two -CH 2 NR 1 R 2 groups per molecule in positions ortho and/or para to the phenolic hydroxyl group(s), R 1 and R 2 being alkyl or substituted alkyl. In Examples 1 and 3, compositions according to the invention are spray coated onto steel panels. Phenolic compounds specified are condensates of Bisphenol A with formaldehyde and diethanolcumine (1) or morpholine (3) and film-forming materials specified are malemized linseed oil and fumarized tung oil neutralized with ammonia. Other components specified are water and ethylene glycol butyl ether as solvents and barytes and red iron oxide as pigments. |
