Zusammenfassung: | 1,171,675. Homopolymerization of vinyl chloride. LEUNA-WERKE " WALTER ULBRICHT " VEB. 17 May, 1967, No. 22843/67. Heading C3P. Polyvinyl chloride is obtained by a continuous or intermittent emulsion polymerization of vinyl chloride using a mixture of metal salts, preferably alkali metal salts, of alkyl monosulphonic acids as emulsifier, wherein the emulsifier is obtained by cooling a 60 to 65% hot aqueous solution of the salts to + 5‹ to 30‹ C., removing the upper layer which separates and adding said emulsifier upper layer in amounts of up to 1.5% by weight of the monomer. It is preferred that a stabilizer is also included in the polymerization mixture, suitably a paraffinic hydrocarbon or chlorinated derivative thereof, a glycol or polyglycol, oxyalkylated alcohols and phenols, glycol ether, polyvinyl alcohol, mono- or polyhydric alcohols, carboxymethyl cellulose, dextran, acrylic or phthalic acid derivatives, gelatines or ketones. In the examples, vinyl chloride is homopolymerized in the presence of the specified fraction of a sodium C 12 -C 18 alkyl sulphonate mixture, together with various of the listed stabilizers, hydrogen peroxide, phosphoric acid and caustic soda. |
