Zusammenfassung: | 1,170,716. Measuring icing intensity. V.V. PAVLOV, V.A. IVLIEV, J.P. ZLOBIN, O.E. BIRNBAUM and O.K. TRUNOV. June 22, 1968, No.29894/68. Heading G1N. Apparatus for indicating the presence of icing conditions comprises an airfoil 2 Fig. 1, mounted by flange 4, carrying a resistance thermometer 13 along the angled edge of the airfoil, and a thermopile over the main surfaces with the cold junctions 10 at the leading edge and the hot junctions 11 equally spaced on either side of the trailing edge. Heating elements 7, 8 are located at the leading and trailing edges respectively, underneath the thermopile. When thermometer 13 indicates air ambient temperature below freezing, the heaters 7, 8 are energized to develop an output signal from the thermopile 10, 11 which increases considerably when water droplets are formed on the leading edge, the magnitude of the increase being indicative of the intensity of the icing conditions. |
