[Also in Division F4] In an arrangement in which articles or material 14 are carried into a pressure or vacuum chamber 20 by an endless conveyer 4, comprising pistons 5 passing through an inlet tube 2 and an outlet tube 3, pressure between successive pistons 5 is adjusted by vacuum or air supply (as the case may be) being applied to conduits 11, 12. As shown, the material 14 is subject to freeze drying on a conveyer 21 Vacuum is extracted at 11 and 12. Walls of the tubular members 15, 22 through which the endless member passes, may embody annular cooling cavities (not shown). Load carriers of various forms may be used (Fig. 2, not shown) and comprise seals (8). The bores of the members 15, 22, may be silicone coated. |
