Striking Mechanism, Preferably for Boring Machines

[Also in Division B4] A striking mechanism for a percussive tool, such as a rotary-percussive boring machine, comprises strikers 3 mounted in cylinders 2 and arranged to be actuated by a pressurized liquid under the control of a distributing arrangement 9, plungers 8 being moved by the pressure of the liquid to impart progressive motion of the strikers. The plungers 8 are mounted in bores 7 formed in a block 6 which is urged by a spring 18 into contact with a distributor 11 rotatably mounted in a housing 10; pressurized liquid is fed through passages 12 into the bores and exhausted therefrom via passages 13. Four strikers are mounted in a casing 1 and arranged to abut an anvil 4 in contact with a tool bit 5. In a modification the block 6 is connected to a rotatable body (23, Fig. 7) and co-operating with a fixed liquid distributing device (24). The body (23) is rotated by a motor (21) which also serves to rotate the tool bit 5.
