Zusammenfassung: | 1,164,735. Adjustable mounting bracket. J. R. SIMCOX and S. H. G. JOHNSTONE. 28 March, 1968 ,[.28 March, 1967], No. 14056/67. Heading E2F. An adjustable mounting bracket has two relatively rotatable parts one 13 of which has a transverse bore 14 in which a pillar 11 is slidably received. The fixed part 13 of the mounting bracket has a screw-threaded shank 16, the base of the shank being surrounded by a cam surface 17 on the part 13. The mounting bracket also includes a movable part or element 18 which has a bore 19 through which .the shank extends with clearance. The movable element 18 defines at one end a cam surface. 20 presented towards the cam surface 17. The cam surfaces 17 and 20 are preferably complementary and can be brought into full face mutual engagement as in Fig. 2. Beyond the end face 21 of the element 18, the shank 16 is threadably engaged by a rotatable adjusting knob 22, which can be tightened to urge the movable element 18 axially into engagement with the fixed part 13. The element 18 is formed with a lug (Fig. 3 not shown) having a bore in which is slidably received one limb of a U-shaped rod 24. The adjacent ends of the fixed part 13 and movable element 18 are enclosed by a torsion spring 26 having closely coiled end portions 27 and 28. With the parts of the mounting bracket as shown in Fig. 2 the movable element 18 is wedged against the fixed part 13. On unscrewing of the knob 22 the movable element 18 is urged to rotate by the torsion spring 26 and the tip 30 of the cam face 20 rides around the inclined cam face 17 until it engages the corresponding tip of the cam face 17 (Fig. 5 not shown). If the movable element 18 is rotated so as to move the tips of the cam faces out of alignment, then subsequent tightening of the knob 22 causes the movable element 18 to rotate against the resistance of the torsion spring 26. A modification (Fig. 6 not shown) comprises two face cams on the movable element each co-operating with a respective one of two face cams associated with the fixed part, axial movement of the movable element in each direction being effective to rotate this member in a corresponding direction. |
