[Also in Division H5] In an electroslag refining installation having at least two moulds 1 with associated electrodes 2, the moulds and electrodes are connected in series. Parts of the circuit with the current in counterflow are brought close together to cancel out magnetic fields and reduce reactive losses. As shown, the supply leads 3 are connected to the moulds 1 but they may be connected to the electrodes. The positions of the electrodes 2 in the moulds are automatically controlled, simultaneously with respect to current but separately with respect to voltage.
