Heading A5R [Also in Division G2] A portable instrument for treating or testing eyes comprises a tubular housing 12 with a viewing aperture 22 at one end through which a fixation target or single optotype mounted on a brightly illuminated surface may be viewed, the housing 12 being supported by a handle (14), Figs. 1, 2, (not shown) containing a battery and motor driving a shaft 44 and, through gears 46, 48, a polarising filter 28, there being a fixed filter 34 between the rotating polariser and aperture 22 so that a rotating Haidinger's brush may 'be observed. With the aid of an iris diaphragm 36 adjustable by control 40, the patient attempts to align centrally the rotating brushes about the centre of the field of vision within the smallest possible field of view. |
