A gas burner adapted to be submerged in a melt, for example of silicate material, comprises a hollow body 1 which receives a gas-air mixture, a casing 2 forming a cooling fluid cavity 3, and nozzles 4, projecting from the bottom surface of the burner, which communicate with body 1 and are provided with orifices 6, each of which is directed towards and coaxial with an orifice in an adjacent nozzle. In a further embodiment the casing 21 has opposing portions forming an open cavity 8, nozzle orifices being formed in these portions and communicating with the interior of hollow body 11.
