Novel compounds of the Formula (A) are prepared by oxygenation of compounds of the Formula (B) in a C 1-6 aliphatic alcohol containing an alkali metal alcoholate, followed, when required, by hydrolysis, wherein R 1 is H or CH 3 ; R 2 is C 1-6 alkyl and R 3 is H or C 1-6 acyl. The A-nor-androstane derivatives are stated to be inhibitors of progesterone, and they may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions with suitable carriers.
