An electrical control device which may be as disclosed in Specification 1,098,280, comprises a control member 14 which is continuously adjustable, and a locking member 10b which is movable into a position of frictional engagement with a surface 14f of the control member and in which position it locks the control member in any position. The locking member 10b is an eccentric cam made of e.g. cast zinc, the rough surface of which is brought into engagement with surface 14f of the control member, which may be of nylon or other smooth plastics material, by rotation via a handle and crank 10a. The control member 14 is spring biased, and may be the operating control of a power drill.
