In a compressive, so-called "vertical" crimping process a band of parallel cellulose acetate filaments, which have some degree of interfilament adhesion (as may be induced by moistening or feeding through high pressure nip rolls or by low nip pressure combined with application of plasticiser) and which may have been softened by steam treatment, is fed to a stuffing-box crimper in which the width of the entry opening of the box is sufficient to accommodate the band and the height of such opening is not more than 3/16 inch. |
