Zusammenfassung: | 114,395. Hoyle, J. R., and Fawcett, P. Oct. 29, 1917. Furnace details. - An electrode is protected just outside a furnace by a casing made wholly or partly of flexible refractory material, such as asbestos cloth with or without metal strands, or cloth woven from wire thickly covered with asbestos. One form of casing comprises a single tube D, Fig. 2, of such material, clamped at one end on to the electrode or a water-cooled holder B, and at the other on to. a water-cooled ring C surmounting the orifice in the furnace roof, or on to a ring resting on this water-cooled ring. In another form, two or more flexible sections are joined by an intermediate ring or rings of manganese steel or non-magnetic material. Such rings may be plain or may be externally flanged between the ends of the flexible sections. Several rounded sections D , Fig. 3, may be united at their edges by asbestos or wire stitching or rivets to form a bellows-like casing. A similar result may be obtained by attaching flat flexible rings D , Fig. 6, to intermediate narrow rings D' of asbestos board or the like. |
