Zusammenfassung:	1,141,358. Nitration. IMPERIAL SMELTING CORP. (N.S.C.) Ltd. 15 May, 1967 [25 May, 1966], No. 23353/66. Heading C2C. Mono- or polynuclear aromatic compounds having at least one ring containing at least two fluorine atoms and at least one hydrogen atom are nitrated with fuming nitric acid in the presence of a Lewis acid in a polar aprotic solvent. Suitable solvents aretetrathiophen-1,1- dioxide, dimethyl sulphone, N-methyl pyrrolidone and nitromethane. The invention also comprises aromatic compounds either having a single carbocyclic ring substituted with four fluorine atoms, a nitro group and Br, I, alkyl, alkoxy, acetamido, amido, carboxyl or nitro substituents, or having two carbocyolic rings having one or two nitro groups in the compound and at least four fluorine atoms per ring, the remaining position, if any, being occupied by hydrogen.
