A machine for pasting materials on to a base includes a carriage 1, material delivery means 16, 18 mounted on the carriage, paste supply means 3 for supplying paste on to the base and paste distributing means 10, the paste supplying means comprising a hopper 2, a hollow cylinder 4 located at the bottom of the hopper, the cylinder having a first axial series of apertures 5 opening into the hopper and a second axial series of apertures 5 diametrically opposed to the first series, and a shaft 6 rotatably mounted in the cylinder, the shaft 6 having longitudinal grooves 8 arranged to receive paste a stored in the hopper and feed the paste on to the base. The shaft 6 is preferably composed of a plurality of component parts connectable to each other so as to permit some longitudinal and/or angular displacement of one relative to another and the distributing means comprises suspended hinged shoes having heating elements. A support 15 carries supply roll 18 of material which is led round a roll 16 for applying it to the base covered with paste from hopper 2. The roller 16 may be moved into and out of its operative position by handle 19 and the carriage may be steered by steering column 21.
