Zusammenfassung: | 1,138,792. Turbine and compressor blade tip sealing: axial flow compressors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. July 13, 1967 [Jan. 3, 1967], No.32321/67. Heading F1C and F1T. [Also in Division C7] A cellular material comprising bonded spherical hollow particles of Al alloyed with a metal which forms aluminides is formed by heating at 1600‹- 2200‹F. a mass of spherical coated metal particles consisting of a core of Al and a coating of a metal such as Fe, Ni and Co into which the Al will diffuse, the Al forming 5-30% by weight of each particle, the heating time being sufficient to allow the diffusion of the Al into the coating and thus form a hollow particle. The coated Al powder may be mixed with 5-35% by weight of a bonding metal such as Ni, Cu, Ag or their alloys and an aqueous binder of ammonium alginate may be added. The cellular material is used as a seal co-operating with rotating blades or wheels in axial-flow compressors of gas turbine engines and in this application the coated Al powder or the mixture of coated powder and bonding metal is added as a filler to a honeycomb of (Registered Trade Mark) "Hastelloy" X alloy heated to 1600‹-2200‹F. |
