The predetermined axially and radially movements respectively of a pilot boring assembly and disc cutter carriers mounted on the rotary head of a tunnelling machine are controlled through a hydraulic circuit involving swash plate driven pumps delivering equal amounts of pressurised hydraulic fluid per revolution of the head to associated jacks controlling the advance of the assembly and carriers.
