[Also in Division B6] In mechanism for controlling the tension of a web during winding or unwinding including as a tension detector a roller engaging a loop in the web, two such rollers 6, 18 are carried by arms 7, 21 fixed to a shaft 8, the roller 6 farthest from the shaft 8 being employed when lightweight webs e.g. of plastic material requiring low tension, are being wound up and the other roller 18 being used for heavier webs e.g. of paper, requiring a higher tension. A weight 9 is slidable on an arm 22 attached to the shaft 8 to adjust the tensions. As shown, movement of the operative roller 6, 18 actuates the slide contact of a variable transformer 14 the tapped voltage of which is amplified at 15 and serves to control a motor 16 driving a winding shaft 17.
