Improvements in the manufacture of glass-ceramic materials
A glass composition to give a light coloured glass-ceramic consists essentially of, in weight per cent, SiO2 40-60, Al2\O3 5-15, CaO 25-35, Na2\O 0.5-5, F 0-3.7 and ZnO 1.5-3. The glass is made by melting a batch consisting of a blast furnace slag 51-54 wt. per cent, sand 29-33%, ZnO 2-3%, Na2\SO4 5...

Zusammenfassung: | A glass composition to give a light coloured glass-ceramic consists essentially of, in weight per cent, SiO2 40-60, Al2\O3 5-15, CaO 25-35, Na2\O 0.5-5, F 0-3.7 and ZnO 1.5-3. The glass is made by melting a batch consisting of a blast furnace slag 51-54 wt. per cent, sand 29-33%, ZnO 2-3%, Na2\SO4 5-9%, Na2\SiF6\t 4-11%, clay 4-5%, coal 0.3-1%. The blast furnace slag has the following composition (in wt. per cent): SiO2 36.6%\sB3, Al2\O3 12%\sB1, Fe2\O3 0.5%\sB0.2, CaO 46%\sB1, MgO 1.5%\sB 0.5, MnO 2.7%\sB0.5, Na2\O 0.35%\sB0.1, S 1.6% \sB0.5. Glass of the above composition may be conventionally moulded to form an article, the article then being cooled to 700-750 DEG C. at which temperature it is held for 30-60 minutes, and is then reheated for up to 3 hrs. at 950-1000 DEG C. to effect nucleation. |
