Zusammenfassung:The invention comprises compounds of formula where X=-CN,-COOH,-CHO or -COOR1 where R1=alkyl; R=H or alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; Y=-H or an alkali metal or ammonium cation or where R2 and X1 have the same classes as R and X respectively but need not be the same The various compounds are prepared:- 1. Where Y = alkali metal or ammonium, by reacting CH2 = CRX with an iron carbonyl hydride in an aqueous solution of an alkali metal or ammonium base. (The iron carbonyl hydride can be produced in situ from iron pentacarbonyl and the base.) 2. Where Y = H, by treating the compound where Y = alkali metal or ammonium with an acid. 3. Where y =-CH2-CR2X1 by treating the compound where Y = alkali metal or ammonium with a halide of formula Hal-CH2-CHR2X1, or by treating the compound where Y = H with CH2 = CR2X1, or by treating an iron carbonyl hydride-tertiary amine complex with an olefin CH2 = CR2X1. The reactions are generally carried out at ambient temperature in an inert atmosphere.
