Zusammenfassung: | 1,121,697. Making bearings. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP. (OPERATING) Ltd. 12 Oct., 1966 [14 Oct., 1965], No. 43638/65. Heading B3A. [Also in Division F2] A fluid bearing 11 is provided with a restrictor 14 having a bore 15 therein of pre-determined accurate cross-section, the restrictor 14 being mounted in a pressurized-fluid supply passage 13 which is formed in the bearing and extends to a passage 10 of larger diameter. In a method of making the fluid bearing, a brass-mandrel is mounted in a bore 16 of the bearing so as to simulate a shaft which is to be supported by the bearing. A thin copper shim is placed into the passage 13 and is forced against the brass mandrel when the restrictor 14, which is a brass bush, is pressed into position. The brass mandrel and the copper shim are removed leaving the restrictor 14 lower than the bearing-surface 12 by the amount equal to the thickness of the shim. The latter could be replaced by a shoulder formed in the passage 13 and adjacent to the bearing-surface 12. The bearing could be provided with a number of pressurized-fluid supply passages 13 with restrictors 14 therein, the passages 13 serving to provide pressurizedfluid to both radially and axially support the bearing. |
