Zusammenfassung: | A process for the aminoxidation of a compound selected from alkyl and alkenyl aromatic compounds is effected in the presence of a supported V and Sb catalyst. The compound may be an alkyl or alkenyl substituted benzene or naphthalene or an intermediate oxidation product thereof having a ketone, aldehyde or alcohol group in an alkyl or alkenyl side-chain. Specified compounds are toluene, o-m-p-xylenes, mesitylene, ethylbenzene, p-cymene, chlorotoluene, a -methylnaphthalene. Examples describe the conversion of xylenes to the corresponding phthalonitriles.ALSO:Ammoxidation catalysts comprise V and Sb. Preferably the catalysts contain V2O5, Sb2 O3 on Al2O3 having a surface area of less than 1 sq. m./gm. Comparative examples include SuO2 and CrO3 as alternative catalyst components. |
