Process for preparing oxalic acid
Oxalic acid is prepared by reacting nitric acid and glyoxal in a molar ratio of at least 2:1 at a temperature between 30 DEG and 80 DEG C., the nitrous acid and/or the oxides of nitrogen being continuosly removed. Zusammenfassung: | Oxalic acid is prepared by reacting nitric acid and glyoxal in a molar ratio of at least 2:1 at a temperature between 30 DEG and 80 DEG C., the nitrous acid and/or the oxides of nitrogen being continuosly removed. An alkali metal nitrite may be added to initiate the reaction and an inert gas, e.g. nitrogen, used to flush the reaction vessel. The reaction may be under reduced pressure or oxygen or oxygen-containing gas such may be passed through to oxidize the nitrogen oxides to nitric acid. |
