Improvements in coating iron strip

In a process of coating an iron strip with aluminium, a first layer of aluminium powder is applied to the strip and a second layer one particle thick coarser aluminium powder is then applied and the coating is sintered in H2 or H2 + N2 and finally cold rolled. The particles of the first layer should be less than 20 microns, the particles of the second greater than 50 microns and the size ratio of the second to the first not less than 8:1. The powder may be applied with an adhesive such as polybutyl methacrylate and sintering may be carried out on the individual layers or on the combined layer.
