Zusammenfassung: | Betains of general formula where R1 is H and R2 is acyl or R1 and R2 are both acyl and X is a quaternary ammonium group, are obtained by reacting a salt containing cations of general formula where R1, R2 and X have the above meanings, with a base which may be organic or inorganic, or an anion exchanger. A wide range of acyl groups are specified for R1 and R2. The acid of the salt should have a pKa of 4 or less. The salts may be salts of trichloroacetic, sulphuric, perchloric, nitric, hydrochloric, HBr, HI, acetic or formic acids. The process may be used for the purification of betaines by formation of the salt followed by regeneration of the betaine. The betaines are produced in a non-hygroscopic form. a - and b -crystal forms of N-(7-21-thienylacetamido-ceph-3-em-3-yl methyl) -pyridinium-4-carboxylate are prepared. |
