Zusammenfassung:Metals such as Ti and its alloys, stainless steel and "superalloys" are cleaned by immersion in a fused salt bath consisting by weight of: .9-15%.NaNO3, .5-15%.NaCl .8-20%.KoH .50-78%.NaOH the weight ratio of KoH: NaOH being from 0.1 to 0.4. Following immersion in the salt bath the metal is washed with water and pickled in dilute acid such as H2SO4, HCl, HNO3, HF. Treatment in the fused salt bath may be carried out below 900 DEG F. e.g. 700 DEG -800 DEG F. or above 1000 DEG F. The treatment removes glass films on the metal as well as oxides.
