Zusammenfassung: | Oxalic acid is prepared by the oxidation of ethylene with a solution of nitric acid which contains a palladium or mercury catalyst, the proportion of nitric acid in the solution being at least 16% by weight throughtout the reaction. Palladium metal or hydrated palladium oxide, which are converted to palladium nitrate in the reaction, or palladium chloride, nitrate, sulphate, oxalate or phosphate, or mercuric nitrate, acetate and sulphate may be used as the catalyst. An apparatus is described in which the ethylene is bubbled into the nitric acid and oxygen is introduced above the reaction mass to complete oxidation of the nitrous vapours. |
