Improvements in or relating to flail-type forage harvesters

A forage-harvester has a flap 5, 6 pivotally mounted in front of the rotor housing 9 the flap being pivoted between forwardlyextending side-walls 1 of the housing and having a longitudinal vertical cross-section of inverted U or J-shape with at least one flat wall 5 joined to a trough-shaped part 4 adjacent to the pivot 2. In Fig. 1, the flap is U-shaped having side-walls 5, 6 diverging at an angle α. When the wall 5 is vertical it abuts returned-edges 7 of the side-walls and when the flap is fully open the wall 5 abuts a returned edge 8 on the rotor-housing 9. In Fig. 4, the wall 6 is omitted, an arcuately-curved deflectorsurface 11 being attached to the front wall 5; a stepped rear edge 12 on this surface abuts the edge 8 when the flap is lowermost. The edges 7 may then be omitted.
