[Also in Divisions B3, B8 and H1] An elongated member, such as a cable core insulated with thermoplastic material, is enveloped with a flexible metallic tape with a coating of thermoplastic material such as polyethylene on one or both sides. The tape edges form an overlapping seam and the thermoplastic material bonds them together when subjected to heat and pressure. An extruded thermoplastic sheath may be applied over a double-coated tape and heat from it cause the inner coating to bond to the elongated member and the other to the sheath, either after or simultaneously with the bonding of the seam.
