Automatic coupling for rail vehicles

An automatic tight lock coupler, Figs. 1 and 2, comprises a beak or guide horn 22 faceted with guide surfaces and extending from the lower end of a buffing claw 2, a pulling claw 5 faceted with guide surfaces on its upper and under surfaces, and a further guide horn 15 depending from the coupler head and also provided with guide surfaces including an inclined plane 21, see also Figs. 5, 8 (not shown), adapted to operate in tight lock engagement with the undersurface 31 on a beak 22 of a mating coupler, horizontal coplanar surfaces 10 on the claw 5 and 23 on the beak of a mating coupler also engaging in tight-lock when the heads are coupled up. The vertical surface 17 on the horn 15 is parallel to the rear surface of the mouth 14, and the vertical surface 18 is in the same plane as the vertical surface 24 on the beak 22.
