Advanceable mine roof support assembly

[Also in Division E1] A fluid pressure roof support unit 1 in a mine is advanced relative to the face conveyer 11 by means of a fluid pressure jack 6 which at one end is flexibly mounted to a floor beam 2 of the support unit and at the other end is attached to a rope 12 which passes through a guide 13 on the beam 2 and is anchored to a plate 14 on the face conveyer 11. The guide 13 is positioned lower than the jack and the anchor plate 14 so that as the rope 12 is tensioned and the unit is advanced, the nose of the floor beam tends to lift to facilitate moving over rough ground. Pairs of these units 1, Fig. 1 (not shown) may be coupled together for combined advance, a jack and rope being provided on each unit.
