Zusammenfassung:103,894. Martin, E. C. March 6, 1916. Saddle supports.- Motor and other cycle seat supports, of the kind which, when withdrawn from the frame tube, can be opened out to form a tripod for use as an occasional seat, piano stool, &c., are provided with a foldable base formed by members e pivoted to the extremities of the tripod legs a , a , a , a wedge device being provided for locking the two rear legs a , a when the tripod is opened out. As shown in Figs. 5 and 8, the two legs a , a are connected by hook ends a to a slide b disposed within the loop of a spring plate c, which is pivoted to the main tube a and is capable of movement in a plot a in this tube. When the apparatus is folded, the slide b is just within the tube a at the part a , where it is cut away. In order to use the device as a stool, the support is withdrawn from the cycle frame, and the legs a , a are pulled downwards and outwards until the slide clears the inside of the main tube, and are then pushed upwards with the slide upon the outside of the tube till it is prevented from any further movement by the spring plate c, as shown in Fig. 5. For locking the parts in this position, a catch d is raised in such a manner that it acts as a wedge between the movable legs, and at the same time the plate c snaps over an incline d . In a modification, the slotted plate is dispensed with, and the slide b' is provided at its upper end with a slotted extension which slides in the slot a and along a pivoted bar within the main tube; the parts may be locked when extended by a catch, such as d, acting merely as a wedge, or it may also be arranged to snap into a notch in the bar.
