[Also in Division A5] A method of making a speculum for use with an instrument having a light source and comprising a hollow body portion 11 and a bundle 19 of filaments 20 embedded in the body 11, comprises arranging the filaments in the space between a core and an outer mould so that the filaments are disposed in a solid substantially cylindrical group 21 at one end and fan out into a hollow substantially frusto-conical pattern about the other end and moulding the plastic body 11 about the filaments 20, and grinding and polishing both ends of the filaments. A light reflecting tip 12 is releasably mounted on the body 11. |
