Sounding-apparatus.-A signalling-device for warning an aviator when alighting that he is near the ground or water consists of an apparatus suspended from the machine and fitted with electric contacts which are closed when the apparatus strikes the ground. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the apparatus includes two chambers A, B insulated from one another. The chambers are in communication through apertures F and a small opening E. Conductors H, H are provided and the chamber A contains mercury. The apparatus is suspended by the conductors and when it strikes the ground, the mercury is thrown into the chamber B, closing the electric circuit and lighting a lamp or giving some other signal. |
