A mattress cover particularly for hospital use, has one upper surface 11 or a part thereof which is moisture impermeable and its opposite surface of permeable material, the surfaces being detachably secured together by a sliding clasp fastener 13. The upper surface 11 may be quilted and comprises a foam interlining 11a11 located between two cotton layers 11a1. The upper layer 11 couild be of polyvinyl chloride and the remainder of textile material which may be quilted.
