A letter box, preferably in plastics material, is pivotally mounted on a door by a separate or integral hinge flap 21 so that the box swings upwards and comprises a back 11 with an opening 12 registering with the door insertion slot and a front 12 with at least a part inclined downwardly away from the door to facilitate the entry of packages. The front may have window holes 18 which may be covered with transparent material, and antifouling fins 20. The sides are provided with removal apertures 17.
