Continuous-discharge apparatus with moving containers; falling streams, commingling.-In an apparatus for mixing powdered coal &c with a binding-material such as pitch, for making briquettes, the coal is allowed to fall in a fine stream while the binding medium is projected by spraying across the falling coal. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the coal falls from hoppers a into receivers b , while the pitch or the like from a container is blown by a stream of air from a nozzle n into the falling coal dust. The coal in the receiver b mav be raised by a bucket conveyer c' and subjected to a second treatment. The hoppers a' are given a rocking motion to assist the flow of the contents In a modification, the coal dust falls down a series of inclined rocking planes while the binding-material is projected as shown in Fig. 1. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the coal is passed by a pipe p into a drum k which is given a rotary or a rocking movement while the pitch is blown in at one end of the drum. In a further modification, the pitch is allowed to fall from a series of holes in a pipe which is led into the drum.
