In an oil seal comprising a moulded ring 1 of rubber &c. having a peripheral sealing edge 6 formed on a rib 5 projecting from an axial sealing lip 3 and a radial web 9 moulded to a radial flange of a rigid ring 2, the lip 3 has a frusto-conical surface 7 which extends from the web 9 to the rib 5 at an angle between 1 and 8 degrees to the axis of the ring 1 and has an axial length not less than 2 mm. from the outer surface 8 of the web 9. The L-section ring 2 is of metal and has both its flanges embedded in the ring 1. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, only the radial flange of the ring 2 is embedded in the ring 1. The seal may be either an internal seal or an external seal. |
