Zusammenfassung: | 215,355. Stuart, A. T. April 30, 1923, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Electrodes; diaphragms; oxygen and hydrogen, obtaining.-A number of metal strips 1, Fig. 2, are spaced apart on rods 2 to form an electrode. Alternate electrodes of this kind are enclosed except at the bottom in diaphragms 8 of asbestos cloth or the like supported by metal bars 9 covered by rubber strips 10. A rubber sheet 11 separates the top of the diaphragms from the cover-plate 12. The ends of the rods 2 are mounted in bars 4 and 5, Fig. 1, supported by insulated bolt extensions 6, 7. The extensions 6 serve as terminals those for the enclosed electrodes being on one side of the cell and connected together and those for the uncovered electrodes on the other side o@ the cell and also connected together. Gas liberated on the covered electrodes is withdrawn by a pipe 13, and that on the uncovered electrodes by a pipe 15. Radial slits may be made in the strips 1 around the holes through which the rods 2 pass to enable the slits to be fixed firmly on the rods. The apparatus is suitable for the generation of oxygen and hydrogen. |
