Le dispositif est mobile entre une configuration d'utilisation passive, dans laquelle la vessie est dégonflée dans la pochette de rangement, le cordage étant pliée bord-à-bord, lové ou bobiné, et une configuration d'utilisation active, dans laquelle la vessie est gonflée en dehors de la pochette de rangement et surnage au-dessus de l'avalanche, le cordage et le système de fixation retenant la vessie à l'utilisateur.
