The invention provides a method for operating a driver assisting system, and the driver assisting system. The method comprises the following steps of measuring the lane direction of a road, wherein the motor vehicle (2) is in the road, monitoring the surrounding environment of the motor vehicle (2) through other traffic participants (11,9), wherein other traffic participants is behind the motor vehicle (2) in the driving direction of the motor vehicle (2), measuring the detected driving speed and the track of the traffic participants (11), and displaying at least one piece of information according to the measured track and the driving speed of other traffic participants (11).
