Zusammenfassung:	The retaining device (4) has two parallel side walls (10) bordering an inner volume (12), and a retaining element for carrying the functional element. Two engaging elements are rotatably mounted relative to the retaining element around an axis perpendicular to the side walls. Each side wall has a guide path with a toothed path, on which one of the engaging elements is arranged. Each engaging element cooperates with the teeth of a toothed web. The displacement of the retaining element causes the displacement of engaging elements along the toothed path of the guide path. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a display device with a display panel for generating and displaying images and a retaining device ; and (2) a vehicle lining element with a retaining device and a cover partially covering the inner volume of the retaining element.
