The method involves calculating pressure rise mean time, pressure fall mean time, pressure rise average gradient, pressure fall average gradient, pressure mean range and pressure variation medium frequency of gas pressure (P) of a gaseous reducing reagent (5) within a reserve (7). Values of variations of the pressure rise and fall mean time, variation of the pressure rise and fall average gradient, variation of the mean range and variation of the medium frequency are compared. Information relative to a filling state of the reserve is deduced from the comparison of the values. An independent claim is also included for a device for measuring lean coal within a reserve.
