The method involves starting a direct current-to-direct current converter to generate voltage pulses with a determined cyclic ratio. An established rate (VE) of each pulse is determined for a calibrated voltage pulse (IC) of a voltage level corresponding to a level of the established rate. Power is supplied to LEDs by applying each calibrated pulse to the LEDs by using a switching control circuit. The starting of the converter, the determination of the rate of the pulse and the supplying of the power are carried out successively before switching of the power supply to the LEDs. An independent claim is also included for a device for gradual controlling of a luminous lighting intensity of an LED, comprising a direct current-to-direct current converter.
