The method involves establishing a function table between alphanumeric characters and modes of diatonic harmony, another function table between the characters and notes of the harmony, and a third function table between the characters and duration of the notes. One mode is determined by application of the former table from the characters of an alphanumeric character sequence. The notes of a melody are determined by application of the latter table from the characters of the sequence. The duration of the notes of the melody is determined by application of the third table from the characters.
