Zusammenfassung:Fiber has a sheath (28), and a core (22) containing a rare-earth ion dopant (30) which permits an amplification of an optical signal propagating in a monomode core (24). Nanoparticles (32) are disposed in or near the monomode core, where the nanoparticles are made of a semiconductor material e.g. silicon, germanium, lead tellurium and lead sulphide. A multimode core (26) surrounds the monomode core and receives a pumping optical signal.
