A Belleville spring washer (28) applies a predetermined axial force permanently on a friction ring (26). The washer pushes the ring (26) which is stressed against a ring (24), so that a predetermined circumferential frictional torque is generated between the rings (24, 26) and outer and inner rings (20, 22). An independent claim is also included for a steering column comprising a module having a friction device.
